Compact Sun wall lamp
This wall lamp is made from discarded CD cases. Combined with the 3D-printed lines, the perfect imperfections in the material create a mesmerizing reflection. The lamp is designed to be fully modular, allowing for future reuse or recycling.
Compact Sun is the result of a research project involving collaboration between Emmaus thrift stores, the Van der Hoeven Clinic, The Good Plastic Company, Cantor, and vanPlestik.
The material for this wall lamp is collected from Emmaus thrift stores in the province of Utrecht. All unsold CDs are collected there and taken to the Van der Hoeven Clinic. There, the CDs are sorted and shredded into separate waste streams. These shredded plastic pieces are the raw material for VanPlestik's 3D printers.
Every product at vanPlestik is made to order. This way, they don't produce excess inventory and create the product specifically for you. Because they still have to print the product, they have a four-week lead time.
